Speaker 1:

Welcome to the basic Bible study looking at John, chapter 5, verses 19 to 26. We're going to look at the phrase for the father. That phrase is mentioned four times in the gospel of John, chapter 5. What we're going to look at with these four points is the relationship between God the son and God the father. Jesus in this chapter talking about his relationship with God the father and what God the father has done for him and what God the father has given him. The first point is for the father loves the son. That is in John, chapter 5, verse 20.

Speaker 1:

The loving relationship between Jesus and God the Father is all over the scripture. In John 3.16, the Bible states For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, and the expression of love is given. The intimate loving relationship between God the Father, god the Son is all built on love. Let's look at several references in the scripture when it comes to the loving relationship between God the Father and God the Son. Matthew, chapter 3, verse 17. It says and suddenly a voice came from heaven saying this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. What we see here is that loving, intimate, affectionate, passionate relationship between God the Father and God the Son and here in the baptism of Jesus Christ. When the heaven opened, god the Father spoke publicly. And what God the Father said about God the Son is so powerful, it's in line with his loving relationship with his Son. It says this is my beloved Son, jesus is my beloved Son, jesus is my blessed Son, jesus is my loving Son and I'm well pleased with my Son, jesus Christ. God the Father is pretty much telling us that he accepts Jesus Christ as his son. He approves Jesus Christ as his son. He is pleased with Jesus Christ as his son. He is content with Jesus Christ as his son. God the Father loves his son and that love that God the Father has for his son, that love, has been transmitted to those who believe in the son, and that love that God the Father has for his son, that love has been transmitted to those who believe in the son. Take away from this lesson when it comes to the relationship between God the Father, god the Son, for you to know that, yes, your parents will abandon you, your girlfriend will leave you, but I want to assure you that God loves you. Even a mother will forsake their child, but God will never forsake you because Jesus said in the scripture that he will never leave us nor forsake us, because of the loving relationship that God the Father has for God the Son, and that same relationship has been given to us through Jesus Christ.

Speaker 1:

Let's move to the next reference. In John, chapter 3, verse 35, it says the Father loves the Son and he has given all things into His hand. Again, love gives. Sometimes we tell people that we love them with our words, but our actions are opposite. One of the attributes of love is giving. One of the attributes of love is service. So God is not just saying that Jesus is his beloved son. He's actually demonstrating the love that he has for his son by giving him. In this instance, in John, chapter 3, verse 35, because of the love that God the Father has for the son, he has given all things into the hand of the son. So Jesus Christ is in charge of everything as a result of the love and relationship between God the Father and God the Son.

Speaker 1:

2 Peter, chapter 1, verse 17,. It says For he received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to him from the excellent glory. This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. This is Peter again, who was a high witness of the baptism of Jesus Christ, god the father declaring publicly his love for his son. The father not only loves the son, the father demonstrates his love for his son by showing the son all things that he himself does. This is a demonstration of the loving relationship between God the Father and God the Son. God the Father shows his Son all things that God the Father does. He will show him greater works than these that you may marvel. So the demonstration of God's loving relationship with Jesus Christ is God showing Jesus Christ what he does. When we see the mighty works of Jesus Christ, that is a demonstration of God the Father's love for his son. So, whatever God the Father does, he shows God the son and that is why, if God the Father can heal, god the son can heal.

Speaker 1:

Let's look at the second point, for as the father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the son gives life to whom he will. That is John, chapter 5, verse 21. Another relationship between God the Father, god the Son, in terms of power the first point was the relationship between God the Father, god and the Son is the expression of love and we see the demonstration of that as well. So the second point also states the relationship between God the Father and the Son through power. Power in a sense of raising the dead. For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom he will. So whatever the Father can do, the Son can also do. To be more specific, in this case, the father can raise the dead and he can give life to them. The son is also capable of doing that. So God the father is the omnipotent, god the son is also omnipotent. They share the same essence, they share the same divine attributes, they share the same God-like traits as father like son, like son like father.

Speaker 1:

Let's look at several references to highlight this point in terms of relationship between God the Father, god the Son, true power. Luke, chapter 7, verse 14,. Then he came and touched the open coffin and those who carried him stood still and he said Young man, I say to you arise. So this is just a clear example of Jesus Christ demonstrating his power and authority to be able to raise the dead and give life to them. Because God the Father can do that, god the son can also do that as well. After 8, verse 54, it says but but he put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying little girl, arise.

Speaker 1:

Another account of Jesus Christ demonstrating his power of, of raising the dead and giving life to the dead. This is something that only God can do, which shows that Jesus Christ is God the son, and whatever God the father can do, god the son can also do, like manner. Let's look at another example. In John, chapter 11, verse 25 to 26, jesus said to her I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this? So, again, jesus Christ state that he himself I am, that I am. Statement that God revealed himself to Moses when Moses was asking God God, who are you, so that I can tell the children of Israel, so I can tell Pharaoh who you are? And God said I am that I am, so that same I am. Statement that the father used to reveal himself to Moses is the same I am. Statement that the son is also using to identify himself, identify what he's capable of doing, identify his power, that he is I am the resurrection and the life, meaning that I am able to raise the dead and give life to the dead, because if my father can do that, likewise the son can also do that. Again, this is just the relationship between God the father, god the son, demonstrated in power.

Speaker 1:

Let's go to the third point, for the father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the son. Wow, this is powerful. That is from John, chapter 5, verse 22. God, the father, has committed all judgment to his son. Let's look at several references in the scripture of Jesus Christ exercising this responsibility of authority to judge Matthew, chapter 11, verse 27. All things have been delivered to me by my Father. So whatever Jesus Christ receives, he gets it from the Father. Whatever Jesus can do is as a result of the Father's will, because he was sent from the Father. Jesus would never speak on his own authority, he would never do his own will. So we see here that Jesus is saying that all things have been delivered to me by my Father. What I have, I got it from my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, which is true. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, you and I. We cannot know the Son without the Father and we cannot know the Father without the Son. So we need the Son to know the Father and we need the father to know the son, because you and I, we don't know the father except the son, we don't know the son except the father. Let me continue to read. And the one whom the son wills to reveal.

Speaker 1:

This is just a clear example of how God the father has declared all things to his son, and one of the all things is responsibility of judgment. In Matthew 28, verse 18, it states and Jesus came and spoke to them, saying All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. You need authority to judge. So Jesus has been given such authority from his Father, god. That is why he has the right to judge people. In Acts, chapter 17, verse 31, it says because he has appointed a day which he would judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained. Wow, he has given assurance of this to all by raising him from the dead. Giving assurance of this to all by raising him from the dead. So this is just another confirmation of the authority given by God the Father to his son to be responsible to judge the world in righteousness and the judgment of the son is fear. It's equal, will give justice, he will recompense. There's no partiality in his judgment.

Speaker 1:

Let's go to another verse to highlight this point of of the relationship between god, the father, god the son in the responsibility of judgment. The father loves the son and he has given all things into his hand. John, chapter 17, verse 1 to 2. As you have given him authority over all flesh that he should give internal life to as many as you have given him, so Jesus Christ has such a tremendous authority to judge and also to grant internal life to those who believe in him. So that is why Jesus could say I am the way, the truth and the life.

Speaker 1:

No one comes to the Father except through him, and this clearly states the reason, because the Father has given all and the life. No one comes to the Father except through him, and this clearly states the reason, because the Father has given all authority to his Son. So all flesh are under the authority of Jesus Christ. So you better believe in him so that he can escape his judgment and he will give you eternal life. 1 Peter, chapter 4, verse 5, it says they will give an account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

Speaker 1:

Wow, again, another reference stating the authority that Jesus Christ possesses he has the right to pass judgment. He will do that on the day of judgment, the appointed time. He will judge the living and the dead. The father judges no one, but has given. See, god leaves the judgment to his son, and the reason why is going to state in John 5, verse 23.

Speaker 1:

That all should honor the son just as they honor the father. He who does not honor the son does not honor the father who sent him. Wow, this is a stamp of honor from God the Father for us as mankind, human beings, to honor the son just as we honor the father. Every knee will bow, every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord, that Jesus is the king of kings. He's the Lord of Lord. So you better bow now or else you're gonna bow later, forcefully, and you have no choice. You will bow before the Son of God, who has been given authority over all flesh, over all things. And the reason God is doing this, God the Father is doing this is for you and I to honor His Son, who deserves our highest honor, glory and adoration. Honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. That's pretty much the end result.

Speaker 1:

So if you don't honor the son, you don't honor the father. If you claim to honor the father, you have to honor the son. Look what it says in Luke, chapter 10, verse 16, to highlight this point of honor he who hears you hears me. He who rejects you rejects me. And who rejects me rejects him who sends me. So if you honor Jesus, you will hear him. If you dishonor Jesus, you reject him. 1 John 2, verse 23. So you cannot accept the son and reject the father. You cannot accept the father and reject the son. Has the father also. So you cannot accept the son and reject the father. You cannot accept the father and reject the son. You have to accept both God the father, god the son, like father, like son. You have to embrace them. You have to believe in them.

Speaker 1:

Let's go to our last point, for the father has life in himself. That is John, chapter 5, verse 26. It shows that the Father has life in himself. That is John, chapter 5, verse 26. It shows that the Father has life. God is life. So the Son has life. So that is why the human Jesus, even though he died for our sin. He resurrected after three days Because he is God, he is life and if you look at all of his I am statements, it clearly shows that he is life. I am the bread of life, I am the fountain of life, I am the resurrection and the life. Everything about Jesus is life. I am the way, the truth and the life. Jesus is all about life because there's life in the Father. All about life because there's life in the father, for the father has life in himself, so he has granted the son to have life in himself. So the life source that you and I will obtain, we get it from the spirit of god, and that spirit of god is in jesus christ. God is spirit and jesus states that the words that I speak to you there is spirit in and they are life. So Jesus is the source of life. So you and I, if we need life, we can call on Jesus, we can draw closer to Jesus. When we abide in Jesus, he abides in us, we can live an abundant life, and one of the reasons, one of the main reasons Jesus coming on this earth was because he states I have come to do what? To give life, and life in abundance, because Jesus is life and he has life in himself, because the father has life in himself, like father, like son. Whatever the father is, that's who the son is. Whatever the father does, that's exactly what the son can do.

Speaker 1:

Let's look at multiple verses when it comes to life. John, chapter 1, verse 14, in him was life and the life was the light of man. Jesus is life, no doubt. First Corinthians, chapter 15, verse 45, it says and so it is written, the first man, adam, became a living being. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. Adam became a life-giving spirit. Differentiate between the first Adam, the second Adam here is Jesus and the first Adam. He is a living being. He is not a source of life. God gave Adam life. Adam became a living soul, but God the Son, he is life himself. He is a life-giving spirit. So Jesus is not just an ordinary man. He is God, 100%, the source of life, the creator of life. Those who believe in him, he will give them internal life. Those who don't believe in him, they are condemned in hell. I am pleading with you, whoever you are watching me, listening to me, embrace Jesus, give your life to Jesus, because there are two places, when you die that you're going to spend the rest of your life with. So the physical death is not final. I'm going to close with this.

Speaker 1:

To see the relationship between God, the Father, god the Son, in terms of love, power and judgment, father, god, the son, in terms of love, power and judgment, down at chapter 7, verse 13 to 14, consummate this, this, this relationship. I was watching in the night visions and behold one like the son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He came to the ancient of days and they brought him near before him. Then to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, all peoples. At the end of the day, god is doing this for you and I, to honor his son, jesus Christ, Like father, like son, whatever God is, that's you and I. To honor his son, jesus Christ, like father, like son, whatever God is, that's who the son is. Whatever we do to God, we have to do to the son, and God has honored, has exalted his son by giving him dominion, glory and kingdom that all peoples all over the world, all nations, all languages will serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and he will have an everlasting dominion and his kingdom will never pass and his kingdom will never be destroyed.

Speaker 1:

Praise God. God is good, so that is who Jesus is, wherever you are. If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal savior, he is coming very soon. I want you to repeat this prayer after me. So, lord, I've heard your word that you are the son of God, that you have a loving relationship with your father, that you have been given the right, you have been given the permission, the authority, to execute judgment. Lord Jesus, I believe in you as my personal Savior. I'm asking you to write my name in the Lamb's book of life. Have mercy upon me, o God. Spare my soul from the pit of hell. I thank you for accepting me. I thank you for welcoming me into your everlasting dominion. This I ask in Jesus' precious name Amen.
