LOVE GIVES US SALVATION
LOVE GIVES US SALVATION
God’s truce and demonstrated love are explained in John 3:16. I discuss the uncaused, unconditional, unchanging nature of God's love and how it can transform our relationship with Him, with ourselves, and with others.
Love um gives us salvation. Um in our society, we tend to define love based on fleshly desires and also based on our feelings. You know, um um people say I love you because I feel like loving you or I love you, you have to fulfill the desire of my flesh. That is really not love, you know, according to the biblical definition. Love. So I've come to realize that um human love is not the same as God's love. We should never try to define something about God based on our human standards. We should never measure God based on our human standards. If we try to measure God based on our human standards, we're gonna fail woefully. So let us just allow God to define, to dictate, to determine, to decide what everything is, including what love is, because he is the creator, he is the one that that tells us what everything is in life, and he has given us certain things, what it means in the scripture, and we can go to the scripture to define what true, authentic, lasting, adorable, faithful, lawyer love is because our human love is not truly authentic, it's not durable, it's not loyal, it's not lasting, it's not faithful, it's not sacrificial, it's not selfless, it and and it's not dependable with our God. So we as human beings, we do not really possess unconditional love within us. Our love is pretty much based on conditions. If you do this for me, I will do this for you. Nice to me, I am nice to you. If you're kind to me, I'm kind to you. I mean, that's what Jesus said. He said even the unbelievers love themselves. You know, you you love somebody that is good to you. But Jesus is saying that we have to go beyond that. Love your enemies. That is hard. It's hard to love your enemies. It's hard to love somebody that betrayed you, it's hard to love somebody that that that slandered you. It's hard to love somebody that stepped on your shoe. It's hard to love somebody that lied up on you. It's it's just hard. Humanly speaking, it's hard. It's impossible to have that unconditional love for people that you you dislike, for people who are your enemies. It's hard. But that's what Jesus is calling us as believers to do. Not in our own strength, not in our own willpower, but by the Holy Spirit, because great I see that it's in us, because love is in us, because God is love. So we have to go to the true source to get this indescribable and undeserving love. God's love is indescribable and it's undeserving. That's how I define the agape love. It's unconditional, but it's indescribable. You can't really describe what God's love is. You can pinpoint, oh, I know why God loves me because I pray so much. I know why God loves me because I wake up every morning on time. I know why God loves me because I study the Bible. I know why God loves me because I preach. I know why there's no reason attached to God's love. It's you cannot you cannot explain it. It's better for you not to explain, just receive it. And it's undeserving. You don't have to say, no what? The reason why God loves because I work hard for it. The reason why God loves me because I merited it, the reason why God loves me because of my family background, the reason why God loves me because of my religious background, the reason why God loves me because I give tithes and offering in church. No, no, no. We don't deserve it. We just have to accept it. It's just the certain things about God that it's freely given to us, but they're so expensive. That is grace and love. That's pretty much what salvation is. Salvation started with the motive of love extended to us by God's grace. And both love and grace, they're freely given to us without our input, without us not working for for them. So anything that we don't work for, anything that we don't, we don't, we don't give God any input, anything that we do not initiate comes from God. Because we cannot say, No, God, I did this, so I'm gonna take the glory. You're loving me because I loved you. No, no. The Bible says that we don't we didn't love God, we didn't love God. God was the one who loved us. So we're gonna look at our scriptural reference, John 3.16. We are all familiar with this Bible verse, and it's so popular. But one thing I like about the word of God is that you can take a verse, you can never exhaust that one verse. That's why the Bible is mysterious. The Bible, that's why the Bible said, Open my eyes to be old, wondrous things in your word. If you are, if you have that eagerness, that anger to know God when you come across John 3.16 and Holy Spirit speak to me what John 3.16 is all about, not just on a shallow level, but on a deeper level. And that's what I want to share with you guys, what I've learned. John 3.16. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. I want to structure this message briefly to number one, the definition of love. What is the meaning of love? To obtain that, we have to look at the source because God is the source of everything, and one of them is love. So God is love. We need to understand this key truth about God. It's just the fact, it's just the reality who God is. God is love. We cannot take this attribute and put it on Satan. We cannot take this key attribute and put it on humanity. This attribute comes truly from God. That is who God doesn't have love, God is love, that is his nature, that is his being, that is his essence. It's built in God, it's in God. God is love. You cannot separate love from God, God is love. We need to believe this truth about God, and the reason why we need to believe this is because there's no way you can come to God, there's no way you can trust God, there's no way you can feel like God cares about you if you don't believe that God is love and God loves you. God didn't just say, I am love, and then it doesn't show us that love. No, we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna get there. So we need to understand as believers this key fundamental of our faith, of our Christian work, that God is love. Look what it says in 1 John chapter 4, verse 7 to 8 be beloved, let us love one another. Why? For love is of God, so the love that you and I we have for one another comes as a result of God. Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. So for you to claim that you are our akosha talaba, for you to claim that you are of God, the measure, the standard is love, it's love, and and that love is not depicted when all is well, that love is not depicted when I'm nice to you, when I'm not nice to you. Are you still gonna show me love? The Bible says, anyone that is born of God is love. If you love, you know God. That is why Jesus said that we're gonna stand before Him. Some of us are gonna say, Oh, I cast out demons, I did this, I did that, that, but it's no love. When you read the book of Revelation, he was telling one of the church to go back to the to their first love, to go back to the you see. You can have I've realized that you can serve God, you can worship God, you can pray. But that if that love is not in your heart and the love is not the motivation of you worshiping God, serving God, or working for God, believe in me, your service, your worship becomes stale. And he who does not love does not know God. So if you claim to know God, show it by your loving actions, your loving attitude towards one another. And God has proven that. God is love, we should be loving. God is merciful, we should be merciful. God is holy, we should be holy. As God is, so are we. That is what Christ-likeness is all about. That is what we have this title of being Christians. We didn't just have that title of being Christians because, oh, yeah, there's one thing we believe in Jesus Christ, but we have to practice what we believe. We have to be merciful because our savior is merciful. We have to be loving because our savior is loving, we have to be kind because our savior is kind, like Jesus, like us. What I've learned about God's love, God's love is uncaused. What do I mean? There's no because when it comes to God's love. God doesn't love you because, oh, Brian, you have accomplished this. No, even if you haven't accomplished anything for God, God's love for you is uncaused. God's love is unconditional. There's no condition that you must fulfill to receive God's love. Human love is conditional. Oh, if you buy me this, I will appreciate you, I will be nice to you, I will be kind to you. What if I don't give you any Christmas presents? Are you still gonna be nice to me? Are you still gonna love me? Hmm, interesting. God's love is unchanging.
unknown:Wow, wow!
SPEAKER_01:You cannot tell me that today God's God's God loves you today, but tomorrow when you mess up, God doesn't love you. Oh, that is why I I mentioned that. God's love is indescribable and it's undeserving. Child of God, it's indescribable and undeserving. I'm so happy just to know this person, God. Actually, you need to trust God as a person, not just what God can do for you. If you trust what God can do for you, at times, what you're praying for, God might not answer your prayer, or God might not do what you want God to do for you. Are you still going to love him? But when you love God as a person, knowing that when you're going through situations in life, you know that God loves you, that he will come true for you. This has grounded me to face any challenges in my life. Even if God does not come true at the time that I want him to come, I know that I know what God is a God of integrity, his steadfast love endures forever. So I am basing my trust on who God is as a person that God is love. But if you're only basing your trust in what God does for you, child of God, at times you will be disappointed. Not because God is going to disappoint you, but God will not do what you want him to do. To test if you truly love him, like the children of Israel. God did so many acts, so many acts for them, but they failed to love God in return. So let our I don't want us to focus on the doings of God. Let's focus on trusting who God is as a being, as a person, and one of the true nature, key nature, vital nature, crucial nature of God is love. Everything rises and falls on that revelation about God. So God's love is unchanging. Nothing, child of God, nothing you can do to make God love you more or less. Nothing. Nothing. Okay, and then God's love is exceeding. If we look at John 3 16, we're gonna examine it now. For God so loved the world, for God so loved the world, okay? It shows that that word so as Bible students, when we when we study the Bible, certain words are there for a reason. Every word, every letter is important in the Bible. Okay, that word so you might neglect that word so, but if you actually look up the definition of that word so, it means to such an extent. Extremely, extremely very much. And that word also means to lay an emphasis.
unknown:Wow, wow.
SPEAKER_01:So for God so, for God so what God is what we're trying to learn about God is that there's some certain extent about God's love, that God's love is extreme. Oh, lika showed up. Hey, this is what I tell myself in life. One wisdom don't ever be extreme in anything apart from God. If you are gonna be extreme, be extreme for God. Don't be extreme for nobody, don't be extreme for nothing. Moderation is good for you and I. But when it comes to being extreme, go. I don't want you to be extreme in a radical sense of killing people, because if you're extreme for God, you don't kill people like the Muslims. We call them fanatic. If you're extreme for God, you don't kill people. You're not a fanatic in a sense of trying to kill people because in the name of God. No. When you're extreme for God, it's on the basis of love. Because Jesus said, love God with all, with all, with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your body, with all your soul, with all your being. All meaning that give God your all, everything, your entirety. Because God has given us his entirety, because the Bible says, for God's soul, extremely, with such a magnitude extent, to lay an emphasis about God's love, how important and impactful it is. For God's soul, so that's very key. Okay, so as a result, God's love is exceeding, far beyond our grasps. We cannot contain it, we cannot put it in up in our pockets to be able to, you know what? Yeah, I have the love of God in my pocket. No, you can't, and you cannot keep it to yourself. We as believers, oh, I'm I have love, but when you're interacting with people, your your face is always frowning. No, it has that vibe, it has that aroma. Oh gosh, yeah, oh God, and and God's love is excess, excess more than necessary. This is for me. You don't need your wife's love, or you don't need your pastor's love, you don't need the love of your mother as an additional to God's love. I'm speaking to myself, the love of my mother that I've I've never received that much, for my mom to tell me, Brian, I love you. I said, God, you know what? Your love for me is not enough. I want to hear from my mother that she loves me. But I've learned that God's love, Brian, that's all you need to hear, child of God. That God's love is excess, it's it's more than necessary for you. You don't need to sell your body to another man for you to lay down your legs, open your legs for you to receive love for that man, to hell with him. You don't need to give any woman money for you to receive love from her, to hell with her. The love of God is enough for you, it's necessary for you. Look what it says in Romans chapter 5, verse 8. But God demonstrated his love towards us in that while we are still sinners. Like I said, people will love you on your good days, people will come to you and love you and respect you and show affection to you when you're successful, but it's so hard for human beings to love you when you're suffering, it's so hard for people to love you when you're struggling, it's so hard for people to love you in terrible situations. The Bible states that while you and I we are still sinners, wretched, wicked, rebellious. Oh God, God demonstrated his love. That is when God said, You know what? Ah, Lalai, I will come and show my love for you in your state of poverty, in your state of affliction, in your state of rejection, in your state of disappointment. Who can do that? God, that is why you can depend on the love of God, you can rely on the word of love of God, you can lean on the love of God. It is trustworthy. That love will never fail, you child of God. I want to push you to to love God, I want to push you to embrace this stable, strong, sound, powerful, reliable, concrete. Love of God that never fails. That nothing can separate, that nobody can separate you from that love. That love is so strong to hold you. God's love has made it possible for everyone to find salvation and eternal life in Christ. Now let's go to the next point: the display of love. For God so loved the world. Okay, for God so loved what the world. So who or what? If you read the Bible, why why does the Bible say for God so love the world? It should have been I was asking myself, well, it should have been for God so love people. Why the world? Why the world? The Greek world word for this world is um cosmos. Cosmos, the cosmos, the creation and its inhabitants, the creation and its inhabitants, which is like the earth and humanity combined. For God so loved the world. So what we see here is God is not just love, what God is displaying is love to something or to someone. It's broad, it's generic, but it's also personal. World is generic, meaning that it's inclusive, but it's also personal. It's not just for humanity, but there's a there's a place of creation of the earth. Are we get there? For God so loved the world. Genesis chapter 1, verse 1. God created the heavens and the earth. Okay, so God's love is exhibited, so God's love is deliberately displayed on the habitation of the earth and its inhabitant, that is us as humanity, its place and its people. In the world means the earth, not heaven, and humans, not angels. That's where I'm getting at. In the world includes the earth, not heaven, and humans, not angels. Because when you look at Romans chapter 8, verse 21 to 22, because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. Remember Genesis chapter 1, verse 1, verse 2. The earth was without formed void before humanity came about. So God wants to restore this earth, this place and its people, and he's doing it out of love because Christ didn't die for fallen angels that were in heaven, once in heaven. He didn't die, he didn't die for fallen angels, those who rebel and disobey God because sin originated from the devil. Christ would have died for them, God would have gone to this magnitude of displaying his love for the fallen angels once in heaven. He didn't do that because sin was found in the devil and he took the other angels along with him. Now, guess what he's trying to do? Attempting to do the same for humanity in rebellion and disobedience to God. But guess what? There's a stop to that. There's a stop to that, and that is Jesus Christ. So, because here is a promise that nothing can take away the love of God for us, Romans chapter 8, verse 38 to 39. For I am persuaded. This is Paul saying that I am persuaded, neither death nor life, no angels or principality. So, Satan and his fallen angels, they have already rebelled against God. There's no redemption for them, and they want to take humanity away from God. But guess what? Paul is saying that, reminding us, encouraging us that death or life, not even principalities, fallen angels, powers, God's angel or demonic spirit, none of these people, none of these entities, not things present or things in the future. No. Height, no depth, not the marine spirit or uh spirit in the area, nothing shall be able. Oh my god, have the ability, have the capability, have the strength, have the authority, have the power to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus. So, what is keeping us glue?
SPEAKER_00:Ah, look at love.
SPEAKER_01:What is keeping you intact?
SPEAKER_00:It is love.
SPEAKER_01:Ah, that is why. Oh, lake. Love, love, oh my god, love is the foundation. Love is the fortification. When you have that, the foundation and fortification of any relationship should be built on love. That's exactly what God has given us. Our foundation is love, our fortification is love. So nothing can take or separate our love, the love that God has for us, which is in Christ Jesus. That's very important. That's the only qualifier which is in Christ Jesus. Outside of love, yes, you can be separated. Allo God's love. Outside of love, yes, it can be separated because there's no salvation other than salvation in Christ Jesus. That's the only condition you have to be in Christ Jesus for you to remain forever in this love. Then it says, verse 35, who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Tribulation. Okay, we're talking about principalities, angels, powers, present or to come. They don't have what it takes to take us away from the love of God. But now, can problems, can sin? Yes, we are fallen. Sin and Satan, they cannot separate the love that God has for us in Christ. Because these are the two most powerful things or entities that are affecting humanity: sin and Satan. Sin and Satan, they go hand in hand. So I'm here to tell you that the love of God is stronger than sin, and the love of God is stronger than Satan. Have you realized that? When you know that God loves you, you won't be afraid of Satan because the Bible says perfect love casts at fear. The Bible said, God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind. When you love God, you will not sin. Your motivation for not sin is because you love God, because oh, I don't want to break the heart of my father. Like Joseph did. Joseph said, I had the opportunity to sleep with Potipa's wife. He said, No, I cannot do such thing against God. It was out of love. Love tells you, don't do this. Not the law. The law will tell you don't do this. But for you to truly not do it, is love. Because when you love somebody, you don't want to do anything to hurt them, you don't want to do anything to grieve them. That is why Jesus Christ summarizes the two greatest, the two greatest commandments on the basis of love. All the laws are summarized on love. So Satan and Sin, child of God, they cannot separate you from the love of God. Okay, the cosmos is the world which includes the earth and humanity. It also describes that God's divine care and providence for the entire world, not just for his chosen people, Israel. That again, that world, because God would have been very specific, a nation or a country or a tribe or a tongue. Because that's how the Bible sometimes categorizes humanity based on nation, tribe, tongue. But now the world is very comprehensive, very generic, very, very general, includes all humanity. So it shows that God's love is for the entire world, not just for his chosen elected people, Israel. It includes the Jew and the Gentile. God's love. Okay, now let's go to the next point. That is the demonstration of love.
unknown:Wow.
SPEAKER_01:How did we not just know that okay, God is love, okay, God show us your love. No, the manifestation of love. Look what it says. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. There's one principle about love. Love gives. Love gives. Love and giving to go hand in hand. There's no way, my sister, there's no way, my brother. You claim to have love, but you're not giving. I'm not talking about giving like money because people think that, oh, for you to like women think that oh, if you love me, give me money. It's a lie. That's not love. If I love you, I'll give you Jesus. That's what I was giving my wife. That's what I was giving my wife, but she does not think I love her. I was giving her the best gift of her life, the best gift that no other man could give her. I was giving her Jesus, but that was not enough. You cannot separate love and giving. If you claim to love somebody, you have to give. Give your time, give your affection, give your encouragement, give what you know, give your talent, give your potential, give your knowledge, give your expertise. God's love is expensive. Why? It's expensive because God has given us his one and only beloved and begotten Son. Hey! Who dares to separate God the Father, God the Son? We are the ones that separated God the Father, God the Son on the cross just for one instance because of our sin. Do you think anything else can separate the love of God for us? When oh lay katanaba, when because of sin, the son was on the cross, separated from the father just for a moment, so that you and I look we can be reconciled back to God. Now, do you think, child of God, sickness can separate you from the love of God? Do you think that witch, that wizard can separate you from the love of God? Father and son, they were involved in creating you in your image and likeness. Now they are also involved in the engagement of your redemption. They were involved in creating you. Now they are also involved in redeeming you. They created you because of love. Now they are redeeming you because of love. They are both taking part in your salvation, in your redemption. So we see that relationship between the father and the son in the salvation process. The father started it with love, and the son finished it with grace. The father gave us his son. Guess what? The son now came to tell us about the father. That's exactly what the gospel message is all about. The father gave us his son out of love. Now the son has come to declare who the father is to us because we don't know the father. See the relationship for God's so lovely that he gave his only begotten son. That begotten means no one like him. One of a kind. So the the the love of God is so expensive because it is free to us, but it costs God everything. Because God had to give his son, his own one and only, only begotten Son.
unknown:Wow.
SPEAKER_01:That has been with him in the bosom of the father. He had to come down in the human flesh just for you and I. Now you tell me, oh, because of you don't have money to pay your rent, or God doesn't love me. I used to complain like that, talk like that. Oh God, because I'm I have this headache, you don't love me. It's a lie. That's just strange and funny. So the cause to God is giving his one and only begotten and beloved son to die for our sins. God sent his one and only begotten Son to this earth as a man to be sacrificed, as a lamb, to be slaughtered, to suffer and die, thereby taking our penalty for our sins. Sacrifice and giving are a key component of love. That's what we see here in the Son. God gave the Son, the Son sacrificed his life. He said, There's no no greater love than this for a man to lay down his life for another. That's what Jesus said. So I no longer call you friends, I call you sons, I call you savants, I call I don't call you servants, I call you friends. Giving and sacrifice, they are components of love. Look what it says in Romans chapter 8, verse 32. He did not spare his own son, but deliver him up for us all. So out of love, a savior is given. So the greatest gift that you and I we can give people in this Christmas, child of God. And it's the most important gift in the whole world. That greatest present from God is a person, and that person is his one and only begotten and beloved son, Jesus. You might not give money or present or physical, tangible present to somebody, but give them Jesus this Christmas. Now, the demographics of love. It says, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him. So God's love is extensive. Meaning that whosoever, anyone, anyone is qualified to receive God's love. Whosoever. It's not limited to the Jewish people, it's not limited to Ugandans, it's not limited to Sarah Leonians, it's not limited to Canadians, it's not limited to women, it's not limited to men, it's not limited to the poor. Rich is the rich as well, because sometimes we think that only the poor need salvation. The rich people need salvation. Our government leaders also need salvation. Our president needs salvation, our bosses need salvation. It's extensive. Whosoever. This invitation is extended to all humanity, black or white, yellow or purple, Caucasian, Asian, African, black, whatever. No matter your race, no matter your status, no matter your background. God's love is exclusive. So the only exclusivity of God's love is belief. Because it said that whosoever extended to all, but now it's exclusive to those who believe. Believe in a sense of those who put their trust lean heavily upon, who personally trust in Jesus as their personal savior. Okay? Because when you read John 3.16, John 3.18, it says, He who believes in him is not condemned. So the exclusivity of this extensive of God's love is belief. And that is why you and I as children of God we're able to come together because we believe in the Son of God.
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_01:And we're not condemned. Okay? So the only requirement for us is to receive this gift by believing. That's the only requirement to receive God's love is by believing. That's all. You tell people that the spirit of Christmas is giving, yes, but it's also receiving. Receiving by believing in God as the greatest gift for you. That He came, His Son came and died for your sin. And we want people to embrace this gift. We want people to experience this gift. We want people to surrender their lives to this gift. But look what it says in John chapter 1, verse 12 to 13. It says, But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God to those who believe in him, his name. So receiving Christ by believing in him, you will obtain the right to be a child of God. So for you to have that right as a child of God, you have to receive Christ by believing. That's all. And then finally, the last uh point is the destiny of love. Look what it says. John 3 16. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The word not perish means no internal condemnation, no internal judgment. Because Jesus said, if you believe in him, you will not be condemned. Have everlasting life. You see, life is eternal. Life is eternal. So it's not saying that you're gonna have eternal life in the future. You're gonna have it now. It's available for you now. Because Jesus said, I've come to give you life and life in abundance. Sometimes when we talk about eternal life, oh, you know what? I'm gonna enjoy life not in an evil way. I'm gonna enjoy life in quality when I die when I get to heaven. No, you can enjoy a life of peace and righteousness and joy now because Jesus said, I've come to give you life and life in abundance, not just life so that you can just survive, but that life is in abundance, abundance is not just in quantity because sometimes we think that abundance is the amount. No, abundance could also mean the quality, the state, the condition of your existence that is full of bleach, that is full of happiness and joy and gladness and peace and meaning and purpose. Okay, so life itself is eternal, so physical death does not end our ongoing existence. So, eternity, there's no time attached to eternity. So it's eternal could also mean forever separation from God, but you're still alive in a terrible state of existence in hell, or forever. Eternity also means forever with God, with an unspeakable or indescribable quality of life, with no time attached. It's not about the quantity, but there's no but it's it's it's really about the condition of your life in a way that you feel like wow, you're living. You don't even keep you don't even keep tags on time because there's no time factor in eternity. Time was created for us as human beings, and then finally, God's love is exempted. It says John 3 16 whoever believes in him should not perish. So when when when you believe in Jesus, you're exempted from the wrath and judgment of God on humanity. God's love is eternal. So God loves you now, God will love you forever. He will love you now, he will love you forever. Conclusion John 3 16 presents a concise summary of the gospel message of salvation. God gives us a son for us, as Romans chapter 8, verse 32 states, he did not spare his own son but deliver him for us all. How shall he not give us freely everything? If God loves you and I send enough to send Jesus on the cross, child of God, I'm here to encourage you that He loves you so much to meet all your cares. If God loves you so much to send his one and only begotten Son, all of your cares can be taken care of. All the other gifts are wrapped in Jesus, the gift of peace is wrapped in Jesus, the gift of joy is wrapped in Jesus, the gift of of holiness, of prosperity, they are all wrapped in Jesus. But you have to first of all have Jesus as the greatest, first and foremost gift if we can have all these other gifts. Now God also gives us his spirit in us. And he did that out of love. So God pretty much gave himself to us. God the Father gave himself for us, God the Son gave himself for us, God the Spirit is in us. Romans chapter 5, verse 5 says Now hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. God is a giver. He gave us his son to die for us, and now he has given us his spirit to live in us. What else can you ask for?
